Product Intern

Hands-on product experience mixing user research with app development.

About the role

Griddy is looking for a college student studying computer science who wants real product experience on a sports game played by hundreds of thousands of people. You’ll own the question every product team has to answer: where does the experience break down, and what should we change first? You’ll answer it with a mix of user research, behavioral data, and your own feel for the product, then help turn the answer into changes that ship. A lot of what matters never shows up in a dashboard. Your job is to find it, quantify it where you can, and make the case for fixing it.

This is a small, scrappy team with a product that already has a massive, passionate following. It isn’t a “check-the-box” internship with busy work and coffee runs: the things you find and the things you ship will reach every player.

What you’ll do

  • Run user interviews and live testing sessions with new users and longtime players, and document where they get stuck, confused, or frustrated, and where it clicks
  • Pair what you observe with product analytics (funnels, retention, feature usage) to size each problem and decide what matters
  • Write up findings as clear, prioritized recommendations, with the evidence behind them
  • Make the simple fixes yourself, directly in the development environment, and open pull requests for the engineering team to review
  • Work with the founder and the engineering team to map out the product roadmap, and help plan and execute the larger changes to the platform

Who you are

  • Studying computer science, and comfortable working in a real codebase
  • Analytical by default: you reach for the data, you notice patterns in what users say and do, and you can tell a real problem from a loud one
  • You have a strong feel for product, and opinions about why one app is a joy to use and another isn’t
  • You love football and strategy games, and you either already play Griddy every day or will after your first draft, because this is the kind of game you’d be playing anyway
  • Curious and proactive, and happy to sit down with strangers and watch how they use an app

Details

  • Rolling start: begin as soon as you’re ready
  • 8-week internship, in person in Santa Monica, about 10 hours a week scheduled around your classes
  • $21/hr
  • A path to a full-time position and equity in the company
